Week-Ending Game Endings - 02.26.10 - Mega Man X
For this week’s week-ending game ending, I thought I would go with an old favorite, and a true classic…
Direct Link
With any luck, this game will someday find its way on to the Wii’s Virtual Console. And with better luck, maybe Capcom of Japan will finally wise up and put the remake, Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, on downloadable services such as Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network (and WiiWare, if it would fit), so a wider audience can play and appreciate it, hopefully paving the way for a sequel.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Wii Fit Plus - Week 6
For reasons I can’t really get into at this moment, I didn’t get to work out with Wii Fit Plus last night, and I believe this will probably be the last of my Wii Fit Plus blogs. But you never know, things can change.
I have burned off a good few calories using Wii Fit Plus, however, and if one remembers, part of the reason I was playing was to help re-strengthen the leg I injured a year ago. So far, I do believe it has really helped in that regard, so that’s a plus for Plus.
Wii Fit Plus probably isn’t going to help you drop 200 pounds, at least not if you’re just using it for 30 minutes a day (though there have been some amazing success stories), but it is a good aid in helping you pay a little more attention and consider your lifestyle.
And honestly, speaking as a gamer, I’ve had my share of fun with Wii Fit Plus as well. I don’t know if it would be enough to make anyone consider buying a Balance Board and the game for around $100, but if you already happen to have the board (or can get one cheap), then it might be worth checking out just for some of the fun Balance Board and Wii Remote activities. For $20, there is definitely some value there, particularly if you’re a fan of games in the style of classic arcade fare and live to beat other peoples’ (or your own) score.
Of course, even if these blogs stop, I still plan to keep using the game. There’s still more of Wuhu Island I’ve yet to see, after all, and I’m sure trying won’t hurt, either. Maybe someday there will be a Wii Fit Double-Plus, and if it adds as much to the Wii Fit experience as Plus did, then I’m in.
Media: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing - Vids, Screens, DLC Sooner Than Later, No All-Star Moves Online, and Sumo Bites Back
Along with a few other items of interest today, we’re starting off with a few videos from GameTrailers for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. First up, Avatar racing action in Tokyo-To and the House of the Dead:

Personally, I think I prefer the Miis’ car. But, if the game lets me keep my Avatar’s hat while he races, I’ll be quite happy with this one.
Media: Metro 2033 Kill or Be Killed Trailer
THQ has just released a trailer for Metro 2033 showing us the monsters that inhabit this arctic wasteland.

From what we’ve seen so far, all I can say is that I really love the art direction of this game. I have said this before, the overall attention to detail in the environment and on your HUD is impressive. This should be one of the most immersive first-person shooters to come out this year.
Metro 2033 will hit store shelves March 16th.
Talkabouts: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M And More
It’s time to be jealous of Abbie Heppe. She was in San Francisco this week to check out the Nintendo Media Summit, where she not only glimpsed much of Nintendo’s upcoming lineup on Wii and DS, but went hands-on with two of their biggest upcoming games. I sat down with Abbie to pick her brain about Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Photo Dojo and more. Should we be worried about Metroid?
For more, check out our Metroid: Other M preview or this Super Mario Galaxy 2 preview.
Drummer Hero for the Wii is powered by Arduino
So many cool things you can do with Arduino. The possibilities are endless now that we have the technology! Jazari has constructed this very elaborate solenoid/Arduino rig to play a myriad of instruments, all with two Wiimotes. Sure beats playing percussion in band back in high school.

Disney wants to take Epic Mickey to ‘Nintendo levels’ on the Wii
Gamasutra got a chance to speak with the executive VP and GM of Disney Interactive Studios, Graham Hopper, who says that Disney is swinging for the stands on their future game releases. The games division is learning from “pure” gaming studios and their success, and while Hopper admits that the company hasn’t always treated their properties correctly on the gaming side, starting with Disney’s Epic Mickey, it wants to “give their projects the time and appropriate resources to be successful.” In other words, let them stand on their own as games, rather than squeeze them up against a movie’s release date.
And Hopper hopes for quite the payoff, too — while third-party titles on the Wii have been hit or miss (mostly miss), Hopper expects Epic Mickey’s success to go “to Nintendo levels.” He does say that they don’t want to turn Mickey into Mario by “simply using him as an icon or an avatar in a game,” but Disney’s goal in the future will be to make sure that each of their properties’ appearances are worth it. Hopper says if they port a film to five different gaming platforms, customers should expect “not the same story five times over, but five different stories, each uniquely suited for the platform they’re on.” A good plan to have, but much easier said than done.

Media: Sin and Punishment: Star Successor - Media Summit Trailer
If there is one thing that Treasure knows how to do and do well, it’s shooters. And with the options the Wii provides, it’s no wonder people are excited about their latest, the newly rechristened Sin and Punishment: Star Successor:

From Nintendo’s press release:Sin and Punishment: Star Successor, the breakthrough shooter game for Wii from legendary developer Treasure, will launch across North America on June 7. The game features nonstop action with two playable characters and international online leaderboards to track high scores. Using the Wii Remote pointer functionality, the game offers unprecedented precision in the shooter genre.Fingers are crossed that this one will do well, but in the wake of Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the anticipation of Metroid: Other M, I’m unsure of its chances.
Monster Hunter Tri: GameStop Pre-Order and Demo Clarification
Some confusion has surfaced surrounding the Monster Hunter Tri collaboration between Capcom and GameStop mentioned during yesterday’s Nintendo Media Summit. Fortunately, Capcom has taken a moment to attempt to make everything clear.
“First of all,” they note, “if you pre-order Monster Hunter Tri from Gamestop, not only do you get $5 off instantly, but you will also receive a Wii Points card worth 500 points.”
That’s actually pretty good, all things considered. But even better still is the demo disc that was also mentioned during the presentation. It will be available on March 8th, but you don’t have to pre-order the game in order to get it– it’s free to all. “If you like it, then we can hope that you’ll pre-order it :-)” they add.
Is anyone more interested in checking this game out now? I was before, but I am even more so now.
