No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise Gets Delayed
It looks like the Japanese release of No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise won´t be making its February 26th launch date. This PS3 and 360 port of the original No More Heroes for the Wii, will most likely hit stores around April. Sadly, this means that we will probably not see Travis and crew till this summer.
Ever since Ubisoft passed up the offer back in November, there has yet to be a North American publisher. But keep your hopes up, this HD remake will hit American shores eventually.
Mistwalker’s ‘Last Story’ to be Developed for the Wii
‘Last Story’ sounds a lot like ‘Final Fantasy’, no? Pretty fitting title for the creator behind the most popular role-playing series. Now the boss for developer Mistwalker, Hironobu Sakaguchi has put forth two titles on Microsoft’s console with little success. First, Xbox gamers were treated with the lackluster Blue Dragon and then Lost Odyssey, an improvement, but not ‘Final Fantasy’ quality. However, it looks like Sakaguchi is returning to Nintendo’s platform in hopes of re-igniting his influence on the role-playing genre.
Currently dubbed ‘Last Story’, Mistwalker’s latest creation will be a colloaboration between Nintendo and Sakaguchi’s team. Let’s hope this legendary developer finds his footing on the Wii. The gaming world is certainly big enough for another JRPG that can hold its own and provide something refreshingly new.

Nokia, Nintendo, Netflix and E-Ink respond to the iPad

We’re sure just about every company on the map has an opinion on Apple’s new device, but a few big wigs have taken time out of their busy schedules to weigh in on the device. These are their stories.
- Nokia’s Mark Squires, Head of Social Media, was mainly confused by Apple’s statement that it’s the biggest mobile device manufacturer, surpassing Nokia in combined revenue on media players, phones and laptops. Mark argues that the accepted definition for “mobile devices” excludes laptops, and goes on to mention the undisputed fact that Nokia’s still number one when it comes to number of devices sold.
- Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, meanwhile, says that mobile devices aren’t a priority for his company yet. They’re fighting the good fight of the large screen, and once they feel comfortable in their various efforts there, then they’ll move on to small screens. Netflix hasn’t done or submitted an iPhone application, but Hastings did mention that he was optimistic that if Netflix did get into the game, the app would be approved for the App Store, and that it would run on both the iPhone and iPad.
- Satura Iwata, president and CEO of Nintendo, took a much more directly critical approach to the device, calling it a “bigger iPod Touch,” and that Apple delivered “no surprises.” In the same interview he expressed skepticism as to the value of bringing a high definition Wii on the market, as well as expressing doubts about 3D glasses-based gaming. Iwata is clearly a tough man to please.
- Perhaps most threatened by the iPad is Russ Wilcox, CEO of E-Ink. He says dedicated e-readers will outsell iPads due to “simple economics,” and that the iPad is “great entertainment device,” but it’s “not the world’s best reading device.” His criticisms, mostly in juxtaposition to Kindle-style devices, abound, including price, weight, backlight and so on. He’s right on the money about the shortfalls of a straightforward comparison, but we wonder if consumers will feel the same?
Nothing too salacious, unfortunately, and most of the points raised are pretty spot-on — though we do wish Reed Hastings would rethink his priorities just a smidgen and get Netflix onto mobile devices sooner than later. We’re needy like that.

Nintendo, Target Will Pay You to Try Wii Fit
If you live in Atlanta and have a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight, Nintendo and Target have teamed up to help you out. This weekend, the Target at 100 Perimeter Center Place will have part of their store’s parking lot turned into a yoga studio for people to try out Wii Fit Plus.
As an added bonus, while supplies are available, you can get a $15 Target gift card for completing the demo. I’m sure they want you to spend it on the game, but hey, it’s a free $15 just for playing. Apparently there will also be healthy snacks available from Target’s Archer Farms brand too.
Nintendo is likely trying to extend its Wii Fit demographic before releasing the Vitality Sensor sometime this year. I’m a Wii Fit owner myself and it’s quite a lot of fun. If you haven’t tried it out, now’s your chance. You’ll even get paid for it!
Wii Fit Plus - Week 2
Last week, I kicked off the Wii Fit Plus blog posts here by getting my feet wet with some of the new Training Plus games to get back into the routine, as well as start me on the road to re-strengthening the leg I injured last year (which hurts to think about, actually, so I think maybe I’ll shut up about that from now on). And, with any luck, maybe shedding a little bit of the weight that spending eight hours a day behind a computer screen writing this stuff might have put on.
This week, I continued with the Training Plus games, exploring some I hadn’t touched and taking on more advanced modes of those I had. And the results… were all-around interesting.

Video Game Price Charts reveal biggest resale prices of 2009

VideoGamePriceCharts.com, a site that tracks average online prices for video games and consoles, has released its year-end report for 2009, and if you were buying and selling games speculatively (we all do that, right?), you’ll want to check it out. Okay, so maybe you weren’t picking up the now-discontinued Demon’s Souls Deluxe Edition because you hoped it would get rare, but if so, you’re in luck: That game topped the list, raising in value from an MSRP of $69.99 up to a high of $116. Grand Theft Auto IV’s Lost and Damned retail box (which contained a code for the DLC) is another big collector’s item, and if you were so lucky as to nab a copy of Bass Pro Shops’ The Strike (with Fishing Rod) for Xbox 360, then reel in the money, because it raised in value over 50%. Whew! Welcome to the exciting market of video game price speculation!
For a little more practical information, you can also see which companies and consoles kept their value in 2009 — turns out MTV, Atlus and Nintendo games all did well at resale, with the Wii (surprise!) topping the market for overall value held among its games. Of course, you should really be buying games (and supporting developers) for their quality, not for their resale value, but it doesn’t hurt to figure out which ones will give you a few more bucks in return when you’re done.

Alex and Jen really want you to play Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
The other day, our friends Alex and Jen invited us up to their loft to play this new racing game for the Wii. We were a little leery about going (Jen kept yelling things like “Waaaah! Super horn!” and “Shortcut cheat!,” which was weird), but they promised us it was kart racing “with attitude,” so we went anyway. It was okay, we guess. You could ride planes and cars and stuff (Jen was really excited about riding bananas for some reason), but when Alex and Jen kept yelling random competitive cliches in between these weird clinical explanations of powerups, we got kind of freaked out and started checking our watches.
Things got a little uncomfortable when Alex threatened to make Jen cry like a little girl, and when she replied with a confident “Bring. It. On,” we knew it was probably time to call it a night and quietly excused ourselves from their apartment. On our way out, we heard Alex creepily mumbling about “the sweet taste of victory” under Jen’s nonsense shouting. They’ve already called us to see if we want to hang out next weekend for a “rematch,” but uh, we think we’re probably busy then.

Media: Red Dead Redemption - Gameplay Series: Weapons & Death Doc
A new trailer has been released which takes a look into the vast and varied arsenal of Red Dead Redemption, helping to keep hope alive for the Rockstar western alive:
Video Games | Red Dead Redemption | Gameplay Series: Weapons & Death DocXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii
Ah, the Gatling gun… a welcome addition to any arsenal. And the Dead Eye targeting system is interesting, more than a regular lock-on, at any rate.
As an aside, does anyone feel a little more educated after watching these?
